Despite chiding from John McCain and the pulling of federal funding this week, the Woodstock Museum will go forward.

In recognition of the war protests today, this clip is Country Joe and the Fish, Feel Like I'm Fixing to Die Rag.

    Most assuredly not. This was more snark than fact. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Ezra was not alive during that period, if I'm not mistaken. My point was that back then hippies weren't inclined to participate in the Viet Nam fiasco and Republicans usually avoided the draft by pulling some family or other nefarious strings-eg Shrub and his ilk.

    I can tell you, though, as a former DFH I would trade the political climate now for those days in a minute. It was a time when people were willing to put everything on the line to force the government to end an illegal war. Today...not so much.

    with Ezra.  He's been my adopted son since 2004 when we hung out at the Democratic convention with bloggers.  In 2006, here's a picture of him with the TLkid taken during our blogger's trip to Amsterdam (Amanda of Pandagon and Lindsay of Magikthise are also in the photo.) And here's one of me, Ezra and the TL kid.

    I adore that child.

    He was 20 when I met him in 2004 at the Boston convention. Here's a picture of a group of the convention-covering bloggers (including Atrios, Yglesias and more)

    That makes him 24 or 25 now.

    thinking about this, Ezra has stumbled across the truth.

    How can Clinton win when Mitt is gonna spend all 2008 and hundreds of millions of dollars rerunning Vietnam.  Sure Mitt wasn't a soldier, but neither was Bush, on the contrary, Kerry was the soldier, yet Bush and the compliant corporate-media ignored the current war and debated 40 year old issues, and in the process, turned Bush into swashbuckling Errol Flynn and Kerry into a..(using Ezra's definition), a "Hippie."

    See, Matthews never used the word "Hippie" - Ezra did.

    Sure, they're going to swiftboat who ever is the candidate, but I don't think you can smear Dodd as a "Hippie."

    Mitt Romney seemed to take aim at the Clintons' marital turmoil for the second time in two days Friday, cautioning voters this Halloween to beware "Hillary's House of Horrors" and its "family values in shambles" room.

    During a question-and-answer session in West Des Moines, Iowa, a man asked Romney if he would support a Halloween event that he was planning. "You know, that's a great idea," Romney replied.

    "What do you think about Hillary's House of Horrors? All right? And we'd have ... the 'raise your tax' room. We'd have the 'weaker military' room. We'd have the 'family values in shambles' room," he said.

    "Frankly," Romney added, "what the Democrats are selling is really quite frightening these days as we approach Halloween."

    On Thursday, during a stop in New Hampshire, Romney said, "During the last Clinton presidency, the White House did not demonstrate [family values] in a way that was helpful to our nation's character."

    Former President Bill Clinton was impeached by the House in 1998 on charges connected to his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

    The Senate opted not to boot him from office.

    Romney's spokesman, Kevin Madden, said Romney's remarks refer to "substantive differences in public policy," not the Lewinsky scandal.

    The museum is being built on top of the hill near where the stage was located. Thousands of people visit the site each year, where a stone monument is currently the only marker.

    "Thousands?" Would that be 7 day? 10 a day?

    The desire to visit a place that is famous, and also has an emotional connection to you is just human. I've done it myself, and I expect most of you have.

    Spend some time at Shilo, Gettysburg, the D Day beaches, Washingon, DC. Go back to your hometown and  try to find,  hopefully successfully, the drive-inns you hung out at. Attend class reunions, service reunions... all great things to do.

    But the issue is, why should the public pay for building them?

    National Parks, etc., are easy to justify. But should we rebuild, or build, a rock and roll venue? To me, the answer is no. Woodstock may have been great fun, and visiting it may bring back some great memories, but it does not have enough cultural and/or historical importance to receive public financing. It is the boomer version of the bridge to nowhere. If they get built, do so with private money.

    how much did Hillary snag for Woodstock? do you know?

    I don't know about the rest of you argument.  I thought public money should have been used to build the WWII memorial.  I think it's hard to draw the line, but alot of wingers said, "not a single dime"

    Hillary is good with money.  She'll balance the budget.

    I wonder how much Stevens got in bribes for the $400 million bridge.  I imagine some of the stuff in his wine cellar is priceless.

    If he'd been there getting stoned and listening to great music, instead of bombing North Vietnam and being one of those who was directly responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent Vietnamese civilians, perhaps he would be a far better human being today.

    Learn to practice war no more.
