CIA Rachets Up Hunt for Osama bin Laden

ABC News' blog reports:

Armed with fresh intelligence, the CIA is moving additional man power and equipment into Pakistan in the effort to find Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahri, U.S. officials tell ABC News.

Officials tell ABC the trail's not cold.

People familiar with the CIA operation say undercover officers with paramilitary training have been ordered into Pakistan and the area across the border with Afghanistan as part of the ramp-up.

...Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell testified last week that current intelligence "to the best of our knowledge" puts both bin Laden and al Zawahri in Pakistan. It was the first time a high-ranking U.S. official publicly identified Pakistan as bin Laden's hiding place.

This may just be a yearly thing, as bin Laden changes locations every March when the mountain snow covers melt.

Ever since Peter Jennings died and they did their slash documentary on Clinton/Clarke last September, it's looked to me like ABC's ratings push has come from mimicking Fox.

I suspect they're eagerly carrying water for the admin. And with Bush's popularity at 29%, the admin is desperate for a positive result.

I don't doubt that they are - finally - resuming a serious effort to get OBL. But I'm sure not going to get breathless with the chase. This admin's record, so far, has been all Viagra without a Significant Other.

Why Isnt Pakistan Treated as a Hostile Regime? (none / 0) (#4)

I would like some of Bush's supporters to explain this to me.

In September 2001 Bush said "From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

For years now Pakistan has been harboring Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda.  So if you believe Bush shouldn't Pakistan be regarded as a hostile regime?  Or is George Bush the type of person who says one thing and does another?

...Up until now, ratchets were about all that had been used to find OBL.  Unfortunately, all the sockets for the ratchets ended up in Iraq.  And they were in inches, not metric, and useless.  Anyway, I hope they get much better at ratcheting very quickly, or better yet just stop ratcheting and come home.
