State Bar Files Nifong Disbarment Ruling in Duke Lacrosse Players' Case

The North Carolina State Bar today filed its formal opinion in the disbarment of Durham DA Mike Nifong for his actions in the discredited Duke Lacrosse players' case.

Nifong also has a criminal contempt hearing on deck for July 26. He has been ordered to appear personally. He also has a new lawyer.

    my comment is the first one after this post was up for 18 hours.

    Also, ESPN has reported (wednesday evening) that Colin Finnerty will transfer to Loyola of Maryland.  Good for him.

     when laid out in a coherent  chronological summary of his interactions with his witnesses, the police, the press, the defense, the court and the bar. The sustained, consistent and calculated dishonesty involved is even more egregious  than I had realized. I had earlier said I felt some sympathy for him because he was "damned if he does..." but reading the opinion makes it clear that this goes har beyond a gross mistake of judgment in a crisis.

    I was appalled, angered, repulsed, etc.

    Now I think I've become inured.

    It was really interesting to read how, after that very early meeting with detectives describing how weak the case was, he responded by going out into the press and talking about how clear the evidence was that she was raped, and how horrible it was that all the lacrosse players were covering up for each other.

    I agree with Deconstructionist, though, how incredibly damning it is to read all the findings of fact laid out in order.  His calculating dishonest is readily apparent.
