Kucinich Asks Supporters to Back Obama

Dennis Kucinich today asked his caucus goers to support Barack Obama.

He said his request is only for Iowa supporters as he intends to win in New Hampshire.

Obama's response:

He said he and Kucinich have fought for some of the same priorities, including ending the war in Iraq, reforming Washington and creating a better life for working families.

When Obama backs Kucinich's positions on the war on drugs, the death penalty, mandatory minimums and the Patriot Act -- even immigration-- then it might mean something. As of tonight, it's not a reason to switch to Obama vs. Edwards or Hillary.

Asked whether he and Obama could be helpful to one another, Biden said, "probably."

Another option would be to cut a deal with one of the top-tier candidates, for instance Sen. Barack Obama. Under one possible scenario, Biden could throw support to Obama in precincts where he isn't strong enough to be viable, while in precincts where Obama has more than enough support, some of the extra could be transferred to Biden. All front-runners are competing madly to become these-called "second choice" of caucus goers who support Biden, Richardson and Dodd. A more formal deal between campaigns, if only in particular areas, could maximize the benefits.

It can be significant, since it seems like this will be a close one.

When Obama backs Kucinich's positions on the war on drugs, the death penalty, mandatory minimums and the Patriot Act -- even immigration-- then it might mean something. As of tonight, it's not a reason to switch to Obama vs. Edwards or Hillary.

Shocker I doubt their is a reasonable situation where Jeralyn would think anyone should support Obama over Hillary or Edwards

Dennis is cheesed off with the Register's blacklisting of him and this is his way of getting back at them. They endorsed Hillary. If he makes a difference in the Iowa outcome, he wins. If he doesn't he loses. It's not so much as supporting Obama. Just venting anger. I don't blame him.

If Kucinich had asked his supporters to support Hillary, I'm sure people would hail it as highly significant and a sign of her "Democratic" bona fides.

Isn't this akin to Mom & Pop's General Store telling their customers to shop at Wal-Mart?  I don't get it.

It will be interesting to see how many little green men vote Obama.

Good deals, bad deals, Chris Dodd won't sell (none / 0) (#10)

I don't have a problem with the candidates cutting deals to try and improve their position in the caucus, but I've heard suggestions over at KOS and elsewhere, that someone like Richardson could be a "Kingmaker" and auction off their supporters to the highest bidder in exchange for the vice presidency.  That's unacceptable, but I'm not surprised that Markos and his people are suggesting this, they seem pretty desperate for a Clinton or Edwards win, much as the mainstream media providers like CNN are, they set about burying the Des Moines register poll when it came out.  If you listened to them yesterday, Hillary Clinton was still comfortably in the lead.  A blatant attempt to try and sway voters.

Of course Chris Dodd respects and understands the meaning of democracy and the will of the people.  He is unwilling to sell himself and his supporters.

    Thank you Chris.

And for the rest of you who think this is just the way politics work, auctioning off your supporters to the highest bidder, I suggest you think again.

Chris Dodd stands by his supporters. Will not be part of an auction
