Huckabee on Letterman

David Letterman shaved his beard on the air tonight. After guest Tom Hanks, Mike Huckabee came on.

He's very affable. He told a very funny story about when he was a radio host. Some quotes:

"As President, you're not making speeches, you're making decisions."

"If I win New Hamsphire, it's because I did this show. If I lose New Hampshire, it's because I did this show."

He did his "vertical leadership" schtick and said everyone gets it. (Note, I didn't.)

That's it...Wow, he flew to NY for that?

Postscript: I'm not a Republican, but if I were, which would mean I share their crazy views, I'd vote for Romney or Huckabee. The rest are pure duds.

    hitler was considered quite affable and charming too, when he wasn't out murdering millions of innocent people.

    in fact, historically, those considered among the worst people in the world have consistently been described as personally charming. every serial killer is described as "a pleasant guy, kept his yard neat, always willing to lend a hand", so i'm not sure how much i'd read into this.

    clearly, i'm not suggesting huckabee is hitler, but those classic descriptions do worry me.

    ...just how would you know he isn't a mass murderer?

    It would certainly explain were his son David got the idea it is fun and exciting to kill dogs.

    Vertical leadership (according to one definition)  "refers to an individual who is in a formal position of power, such as being the hierarchical head of a division."

    Some of the left-of-center blocks say that this is a code word of the right-wing religious fundamendalists the Huckabee is courting.  That the "individual" who is on top is, of course, God.

    I have no idea if this is a paranoid musing, or if it's right on the money (or something in between).  On another blog (http://www.arktimes.com/blogs/arkansasblog/2008/01/dogwhistle_language.aspx) one can read:

    I'm a Republican evangelical -- more specifically, a conservative Baptist -- and I'd never heard of "vertical leadership" before Huckabee started talking about it. Even now I'm really not sure what he's talking about. It sounds to me suspiciously like the usual creative jargon and mumbo-jumbo you can find in the 29,342 business leadership books down at Barnes & Noble. There's also a subset of these leadership books devoted to the Christian market, so he may have picked it up from one of those. But no, there's no "code word" involved here, because few if any of us evangelicals have any idea what he's referring to.

    I dunno.

    It bears watching.
