Hillary Clinton got more support in Puerto Rico today.(in Spanish, my translation skills are minimal but here is what I get):

The president of the Office of Dominican Subjects in Puerto Rico, Luis Aguasvivas, today exhorted to his compatriots in the Island to vote for Hillary Clinton.

....“The triumph in Puerto Rico of the senator Hillary Clinton will contribute to the development of social projects in favor of our community, in the fields of migratory reform… federal aid to programs of improvement of health, education, allocation of resources for the development of micro-enterprises, as well as of technical-vocational programs of education”, it maintained in an official notice.

Singer Ricky Martin issued this press release in Puerto Rico today, urging voters to mobilize and vote for Hillary. [More...]

“Senator Clinton has always been consistent with her commitment to the needs of our community for education, health and social welfare”, boricua in an official notice expressed the star.
....“As all we know these elections have historical repercussions for the United States as well as for the world. In the case of the presidential primary, ... we must take this opportunity to exert our force”,

The article lists as other Hillary supporters:

Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor, Eva Longoria, Jack Nicholson, America Ferrera, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Michael Douglas, Robert Kennedy Jr, Quincy Jones and Magic Jonson they had announced his support

well yes he does have sway in the gay community but his reach goes far beyond that. He has been a music sensation since he was a boy. He was the lead singer of Menudo until the age of 15 and while he has mostly stopped singing in English, he is still cutting albums in Spanish.

Willie Colon endorsed Clinton. These endorsements are not insignificant in Latin American community,perhaps not the Mexican and Central American communities but in the others yes. I'm a Latin American and this impacted me. Martin remains "un astro".

but I was wondering if Madonna had backed our girl. She must be reading the papers and seeing some very familiar stories.

I wonder what impact this will have, though. Oprah, I feel, did a lot for Obama (at her own personal cost, which has been discussed here).

Perhaps this will help motivate people to go out and vote. It's nice to read something like this and know that I am not the only one thinking it is never too late. Thanks for sharing the story!

in the Caribbean, at our favorite island, it seems to be election time. And part of the culture is cacophony from cars with loudspeakers, circling the island with catchy music blaring. Still, it's always a surprise, and initially annoying -- but then, the music sounds great after enough margaritas.

I can read Spanish and I just clicked on the comments regarding the Martin endorsement. One reader wrote: "Whatever you want Ricky (baby)! I will do whatever you say!"

Ricky Martin is getting trashed over at MyDD, the blog that used to be full of rational people, but was overrun by the DailyKos crowd a few months back.
Just thought I'd pass this along, as I was over there earlier and that is where I learned about Ricky Martin's endorsement. Then my heart sank as I read the typical hateful comments. Gotta hate Ricky now that he's in with the Clintons!

My mom started laughing when I told her about this and didn't think Ricky Martin was very relevant these days (although I'm proud she knew who he was considering she's 73 and never followed any popular music). Have I said this here before? When asked by MoveOn if they should endorse a candidate, I told them that I was torn, but on the whole I suggested they endorse Obama because I thought he'd bring new voters into play etc.

On SuperDuperTuesday I ended up voting for HRC anyway, long story. And I schooled myself long and hard about the tendency to rationalize a close decision.

It was Obama himself, and people acting on his behalf, and my discovery of how very thin his resume was, AND HIS FRICKIN' TRYING TO REWRITE THE HISTORY OF THE LAST FORTY YEARS, that's changed my mind. Oh, and how HRC has grown as a candidate, and I openly admit she is much better now than in February.

In some sense I want to like Obama. I really do. But the man himself gets in the way of it, and every single bit of vitriol that's flung at HRC for no better reason than that she is a woman makes me think, that's what "they" always do to us. That's how they marginalize ME. And it becomes personal.

Like I keep saying, Obama has to own this problem and do something about it. He could. But the window is very small: it's closing rapidly.

...you are right. Krugman was digging his own grave, IMO, and his rhetoric lost me (I was reading him all through undergrad, but he lost me on his overreaction).

The hope/unity meme was BS from the start. Even if they wanted it to be true it couldn't be. She ran to Obama's right when it became clear what was going to happen, IMO.

As I have said time and again, I will support the Democratic nominee. My perspective is undoubtedly skewed, but I don't hear that from Camp Clinton these days.

if one preaches hope and unity and consensus, then acts just the opposite, then he or she is open to criticism.

I never saw Clinton or her supporters as creating that illusion. But many Obama supporters do, then cannot accept ANY criticism, and are intolerant to dissenting views. They start namecalling at the drop of a hat.

It isn't fair that she is judged by him, I admit. I even admit that he took the change meme and ran with it.
