Alberto Gonzales' New Gig

There's an interview with former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in tomorrow's New York Times Magazine.

He has finally landed a new job. He'll be teaching at Texas Tech University. Among his courses will be one in political science, "Contemporary Issues in the Executive Branch."
Among his other disclosures:

  • No company or law firm has offered him a job since he resigned
  • He hasn't spoken to former President G.W. Bush since Bush left office.
  • He has substantial legal bills (and people are raising money for them, but he hasn't asked Bush or Cheney for help
  • He's writing a book on his time in office but has no publisher yet.

    as I recall, he has a pretty crappy memory . . .

    But really, I don't.

    How do you work for Dubya Bush though (none / 0) (#15)

    for what?  12 years at least?  And you follow him to the White House and then you never speak to him again?  Why?  How does this shake out?

    I think AG got exactly what he deserved for using GWB for a meal ticket.  What do you call a gold digging lawyer?

    The party is over, AG!  Time to go back to the private sector.  Time to add another name to the list of former prominent Republicans who didn't qualify for a conservative think tank job.

    As a token latino, spit out and left to dry all on his own. Not that I mind or care, considering the damage he did to the DOJ.

    What a hypocrite Bush is.

    Texas Tech is mostly a conservative university in the desert of west Texas.  A good place for Alberto.

    And the title is: "I Don't Recall".  At least he is not teaching a course on ethics.   How about a semester of "I kiss the butt of my master even if it means breaking the law".

    These people getting attention and making a buck while they are doing it drives me nuts!

    Ah, but will he make bucks (5.00 / 1) (#6)

    on a book?  I just said to someone who is shopping a manuscript, "what do you and Alberto Gonzalez have in common?"  The answer, as it says here:  Neither one has a publisher yet.

    I will read this book.  I want some answers!  I wouldn't read it if he was all chummy with the chumps but he isn't.  I want to hear what he has to say.  I'll probably be very disappointed in his pathetic answers and BTD will slaughter him.

    no one wanted their QB Graham Harrell.  He ended up in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Though many have had successful careers there and stepped into the NFL later -- Doug Flutie, Joe Kapp, Warren Moon.

    Back on topic -- I feel sorry for Gonzales he has a family to support. I personally don't like to wish anyone ill-luck no matter they've done. Their karma becomes yours if you do IMO.

    even for right-wing welfare.  Ordinarily, you get a gig for doing the right's bidding.  Think tank, law firm, consulting, book deal, etc.

    This guy is too evil for even that.

    I note that he went to Harvard Law School;
    He was a partner in a law firm in Texas;
    He was Governor Bush's counsel;
    He was a justice on the Texas Supreme Court;
    and then, he was Attorney General.

    It boggles the mind.  He couldn't find a job until this Texas Tech thing?  Is it really that he is SO EVIL that people won't touch him?  They hired Yoo fast enough.  What is it about this guy?

    John Yoo (5.00 / 1) (#16)

    was a tenured professor at the University of California (Boalt Hall, Berkeley) Law School before he worked for the Bush Justice Dept.  That's why he had a right to return despite his reprehensible conduct in that position. He was not hired after his Bushie gig.

    I think you have to throw in a generous dose of stupidity.  When has this guy said anything remotely resembling smart?

    What, exactly, are the issues he is facing that require so much expensive legal counsel?
