DWTS: Wrong Outcome

Margaret Cho went home tonight on DWTS. She and Louie were in the bottom two, along with Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas.

Bristol is wooden, has zero musicality and even less dance ability. The judges seem to be afraid of hurting her feelings. Unlike every other contestant, she has no pre-existing fan base of her own. She didn't star in a reality show or any tv show, she's not a comic, a singer, or a top athlete.

The politicization of the show this season, casting this unaccomplished, untalented, non-star with no resume of her own, only because her mother is famous and polarizing which will bring in viewers, has left a permanent sour taste. [More...]

Margaret was clearly better than Bristol. But viewers voted in sufficient numbers to keep Bristol, so she stayed and Margaret got the axe. It's obviously fans of her mother who are voting for her.

The show is called "Dancing With the Stars" because we're supposed to be watching contestants who have some celebrity in their own right and performing talent in a field other than professional dancing. Most are actors, singers, or top athletes. The few exceptions -- those without performing backgrounds like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak former House Speaker Tom DeLay and astronaut Buzz Aldrin -- were well known because of their own careers.

Shame on ABC and shame on the judges for playing along and playing viewers.

Update: For those not familiar with the other contestants, this ABC article today has a brief synopsis. Some examples:

Brandy:

Brandy is a platinum-selling R&B and pop singer, actress, songwriter, and record/television producer. In 1994, at the age of 15, Brandy released her eponymous debut album, which sold more than 6 million copies.
Rick Fox:
Three-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, actor and producer Rick Fox has appeared in a number of film and television projects, sharing the screen with actors ranging from Whoopi Goldberg to Henry Winkler to Angela Bassett and Shia LeBeouf.
Jennifer Grey:
A beloved actress of both film and television, Jennifer Grey is best known for her starring roles in the iconic movies "Dirty Dancing" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
Florence Henderson (age 76):
Florence Henderson is a multi-talented actress, talk show host, recording artist, author, Broadway veteran and philanthropist. Her career is as active today as when she first appeared as the "Today Girl" on "NBC's Today Show" and was the first woman to host "The Tonight Show."
Kyle Massey (Age 19):
Kyle Orlando Massey stars as Cory Baxter in Disney Channel's No. 1 hit sitcom, "Cory in the House," Disney Channel's first spinoff. He originated the role of Cory in Disney's "That's So Raven," the first show in Disney's history to produce more than 100 episodes. For his work on "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House," he received an NAACP Image Award nomination.
Audrina Partridge:
After starring in six seasons of the hit series "The Hills," Audrina Patridge has joined the ranks of young Hollywood as one of the most sought-after and talked about talents on television.
Mike the Situation Sorrentino: Star of Jersey Shore. "The popularity of the show caught fire, becoming one of the highest rated shows in MTV history and made "The Situation" into a pop culture phenomenon."

Kurt Warner:

Kurt Warner is the first quarterback to participate in "Dancing With the Stars." In 1999, he emerged from obscurity to lead the St. Louis Rams to a victory in Super Bowl XXXIV. That same year, Warner was named the NFL and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player.
And then there's Bristol, "former first daughter of Alaska" and teen pregnancy spokesperson who once appeared in a single episode of a reality show.

I'm not sure anyone should get as indignant as you clearly did over who went home on a show about D-list "stars" who subject themselves to the spotlight of reality TV - I know shows like these are mind-candy - I watch a few competetive reality shows myself - but in the words of Sylvia Goldstock, a renowned baker, "it's not death - it's just cake!"  Or in this case, "it's just dancing!"

It's Sarah Palin that is still under your skin, that's clear, and I know you just hate the idea that somehow, she's getting way more out of Bristol's participation than Bristol ever will, but try to enjoy the other contestants and rest assured that Bristol will get the boot in due time - and think how much you will enjoy the image of Sarah gnashing her teeth and blaming it on the evil liberals!

"uncomfortable" to watch is part of why I like them.  They're aren't the usual "cute, funny, likeable" kids; they are supposed to be normal teens with working parents who have a non-perfect family.  And the fact that the two kids don't get along very well is quite realistic.  I love the layers of this show....from the marriage to the envisioned other relationships, to the office politics and jockeying for position, to the kids doing stuff the parents aren't aware of...all of it.  Great show with great writing and acting.

Sure I can Google Ms Cho.  Maybe I can find her in "Variety" if that is still around.

I have a 6 foot bookcase of Engineering/Physics/Math/Nautical Engr., and Chemical Engr. handbooks and reference texts, and two more 6 foot bookcases of specific ship manuals and reference works, and much more digital on several computers and many external hard drives.

I use these as well as Google to look up things that I don't know off hand.

If I have to Google Ms Cho or go to some library, to find out who she is, then she isn't much of a celebrity.  ((That is how I understand the definition of the word.))

No one need Google Ms Bristol Palin to determine who she is.

Jerlyn, I am not making false accusations about anyone - I just watched about 5 minutes of that show and in almost every line uttered by someone there was a censor beep.  I can't believe that he is on DWTS!  Is that what a celebrity is today?

highest ratings of any show MTV has aired in eight years.

Last week's episode had 6.7 million viewers and it beat out "My Generation", "Community", "30 Rock", "Outsourced", "The Apprentice", "Fringe", "Nikita" and "The Vampire Diaries", to name a few. One million more and it would have beat The Office and Private Practice. It had a "whopping 6.9 rating and a 27  share with people 12-17 on Thursday night."

Sorry you don't like it, I find the cast entertaining, and I like to keep up with what the public, especially young people, are watching.

Name recognition does not make one a celebrity. Again, no one in America outside the few hundred people who attend her abstinence talks would know who Bristol Palin is, but for being her mother's daughter. She's not a celebrity or a star in her own right. She has no accomplishments. The other contestants, like them or not, do have accomplishments in tv, acting, singing or sports.

You obviously don't follow youth or pop culture. That doesn't make you typical -- except maybe among commenters here.

She was a very popular comedian for a while in the 90's and had her own T.V. show that lasted a few seasons.  I never really liked her show or her stand up too much, so I don't have any particular ax to grind with her being dissed.  But I'd say she's a legitimate celebrity, somewhat in the has-been pile.

Probably you are just passing your disdain for Sarah on to her child.

You need to understand what makes a celebrity these days.  What gets the public attention.

Bristol has name recognition.  She appears on TV.  She gives talks and is paid for it. She is on radaronline.com.  That is all that matters.

I have never heard of that woman in the rainbow dress.  I know more than I care to about Bristol and Levi.  They are all over RadarOnline.com which I learned about only because I wished to check on how Tiger Woods was doing with his big divorce mess.  ((And doggone it, he just had a big loss in the Ryder Cup.))

I have never seen mention of that woman up above.

Margaret Cho is a well known comedienne. Here is her touring schedule for Oct/Nov. There's no comparison to a few speeches Bristol has given on abstinence to a national, decades long career like Margaret's. Google is your friend, try it before commenting when you aren't familiar with the topic you are addressing.

I am so sick of that whole family already.  She is not going to run for President, or lead a movement (not one that will accomplish anything), or anything else substantive.

She won the Veepstakes a couple years ago when a desperate McCain shot from the hip and grabbed someone he though would win a lot of disgruntled Hillary supporters.  She quit her job as Governor of Alaska because she knew she was sitting on a winning lottery ticket and wanted to cash it.  I get it.  The book, the speeches, the TV appearances...she cashed it in and made her millions.

When will America move on???  Because it is not just conservatives/Tea Partiers that are promoting this woman.  Its the left, the media, hollywood as well as everyone that cannot stop talking about her because they hate her.

It may have been bad last year as I haven't watched it for a couple of years. I have to admit, I only watched it so see Bristol. heh

I think it a terrible show.  The judges have been more than critical but downright abusive. It's painful to watch. Last night is seemed obvious to me that the judges sure have favorites. And what's up with the dance partners?  They seemed to be paring them all wrong.

The show has been #1 the last two weeks so I guess all the ugliness is working.

to celebrate gay pride. The message was to end gay teen suicide. The show makes the outfits for every contestant. The theme of all the dances this week was to tell a story, and that was the story she and Louie were telling. One of the criticisms the judges had of Bristol was they couldn't understand her story from her dancing.
