Bradley Manning to be Moved to Ft. Leavenworth

The Defense Department announced today that Pvt. Bradley Manning will be moved from Quantico to the Joint Regional Correctional Facility at Fort Leavenworth.

The Kansas prison opened in 2010 as part of the Military Correctional Complex.

    and it sounds like he is going to need some of the decent mental health treatment offered there.  Glenn Greenwald has more and kudos to him for his efforts in bringing this story to light.

    Sounds like he will have a lot more 'freedom' and will be treated as any other prisoner.  We got the man some undies and some dignity.

    I would like to think the Blogosphere had a lot to do with bringing this issue to the surface and pushing for some changes.

    Well on second thought, his attorney probably deserves more credit than anyone.

    Of course, he could be treated the same way at Ft Leavenworth. Hopefully the leadership there has a better handle on things.

    Leavenworth?  I haven't.  The only thing I've ever heard is that it is hell on earth in the grand scheme of military prisons.

    Lt. Col. Dawn Hilton, in charge of the medium-security detention facility at Leavenworth, said Manning will undergo a comprehensive evaluation upon his arrival to assess whether he is a risk to his own or others' safety.

    She said the facility, which opened in January, is designed for long-term detention of pretrial inmates. Officials agreed that Manning's case, which involves hundreds of thousands of highly sensitive and classified documents, is very complex and could drag on for months, if not years.

    I guess the details will be in the evaluation.  Either way, I don't think Army personnel should be locked up in a Marine facility.  There is a certain angst between branches.

    According to the article, he will be treated more humanely, the way a pre-trial defendant should be treated.
