Verdict: Tahawwur Rana Guilty on Two Counts

Update: Verdict: NOT GUILTY on Mumbai count, GUILTY on Copenhagen and Guilty on providing material support to LeT.

Clearly, the jury did not take David Headley's cooperating testimony at face value. The Government has helpfully put its trial exhibits online, so you can see the evidence the jury saw, including Rana's e-mails and some video clips of his uncounseled post-arrest statement. (Rana waived his right to an attorney.)

They began deliberating yesterday. Here's the Twitter feed for #RanaTrial.

The anonymous jury is comprised of ten women and eight African Americans. Rana was happy with the jury when it was picked.

"The idea here was to get a jury of Mr. Rana's peers and I believe that we got a jury of Mr. Rana's peers. People who can understand Mr. Rana's position as an immigrant. "Clearly, the jury did not take David Headley's cooperating testimony at face value."

All that is clear is that the jury did not find the face value of David Headley's cooperating testimony to be sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for a conspiracy charge.  That's a hazard of cooperating testimony, especially for something amorphous like conspiracy.  The jury was quite willing to find Rana guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of more concrete "providing material support" charges in two other terror cases.
