Natalie Khawam: Here's Gloria

The Real Housewives of Tampa evolve into Desperate Housewives: If you thought Natalie Khawam and Gloria Allred were going to answer questions about Gen. Petraeus, Gen. Allen or her sister Jill Kelley's relationship with them, you'd be mistaken.

Today's news conference was a publicity fest about Khawam's custody battle which Allred wants to turn into a women's rights issue. Does anyone care that Natalie and Jill played softball and tennis and like cooking and playing chess and piano? [More...]

Natalie:

I look forward to the day when I'm able to answer everyone's questions and explain what really happened."

Gloria:

Allred called reports on Khawam's custody battle "erroneous" and said a number of women's groups are filing friends of the court briefs about "significant issues" in Khawam's case...

...Natalie is just one of the many mothers in this country who have been forced to suffer because of family court decisions."

I've excerpted many of the court filings here. I'm not seeing a women's rights issue in her case. If anything, it raises the issue of how difficult it is for anyone, male or female, who doesn't have hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, to fight false charges of domestic violence or a spouse's removal of a child from the jurisdiction without consent.

Meanwhile, Paula Broadwell and her family have returned to their home, and a friend of Jill Kelley's says one of Paula's anonymous emails to Kelley threatened "to make her go away" which Kelley took as a threat on her life.

Now I'm enraged.  So General Petraeus stood up for her based on the truth as he knew it.  Can we talk about how many soldiers have gone through nasty nasty divorces and child custody fights and many of them were being railroaded but their Generals would cut off their phucking arm before they would sign a letter for any soldier like that.  That would be putting themselves out there, using their authority unprofessionally in a situation they were not professionally able to make the call on.  It is complete crap that Allen and Petraeus involved themselves in her child custody case, and it is also shameful given how military leadership defines its role in these situations for their own soldiers!!!!!

Posted this a few years ago, but it never gets old, the best righteously angry version of this song ever.

Wonder what percentage Gloria is taking for whatever reality tv gigs or magazine spreads Natalie ends up with.

what took Allred so long.  A week plus before she showed up.

    Good ol' Gloria's slowing down.

As to the letters Petraeus and Allen wrote in the custody case, I am still dumbfounded that they did so.  Generals don't do that.  Period.  And if they were inclined to do so, their aides usually can talk some sense to them.  Something more there than we've seen.  Yet.

Well one thing's for sure, Jeralyn: (none / 0) (#2)

Whenever Gloria Allred gets involved, it certainly won't be dull.

    I think Gloria may have (5.00 / 1) (#4)

bit off on something she might choke on here. I think there are some issues surrounding this she may get blindsided by.

I'm glad Petraeus is gone, but disappointed about the reason.

His prior record should have been enough to disqualify him from the job.

    I'm curious about her retainer (none / 0) (#10)

By her own admission, her client is deeply in debt and is being sued for nonpayment of legal fees (@ $100,000).  Overturning these orders will be an uphill fight, her credibility is (at best) questionable, and the attorney representing her divorce attorneys in the fee suit indicated she stonewalled and fought every issue.  Divorce matters (particularly custody fights) can be extremely time consuming and expensive, and most divorce attorneys wouldn't touch a suit or client like this without a hee-YOOGE retainer.

simply a percentage of any book or movie rights. It will be more PR representation and less legal representation for the poor unrecognized sister that has found herself relegated to the bit part of Jill Kelley's twin in the ongoing docudrama.

I got the impression that she was going to represent her in her custody appeal, but maybe you're right.

Yeah, so? They were sisters. (none / 0) (#13)

So being twin sisters entitles them to 99%er status?

Those generals are fools and I shudder to think they manage troops.  The culture of the Kelley cocktail circuit is absurd and, let me be righteously bias here, the opposite of what their privileged R&R should be!

P.S. Keep children away from her!
