George Jung ("Blow") Released After 20 Years

Legendary cocaine trafficker George Jung (played by Johnny Depp in the movie "Blow") has been released from prison to a halfway house after serving almost 20 years behind bars.

Jung says on his website:

Jung was a part of the Medellin Cartel which was responsible for up to 85 percent of the cocaine smuggled into the United States. He specialized in the smuggling of cocaine from Colombia on a large scale.

Jung was first sent to the federal prison in Danbury on a marijuana case. While there, he made friends with Carlos Lehder, who along with Pablo Escobar, the Ochoa brothers and Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha (alias El Mexicano) headed up the Medellin cartel. In the movie, Jung says:

Danbury wasn't a prison, it was a crime school. I went in with a Bachelor of marijuana, came out with a Doctorate of cocaine.

I apologize on behalf of a tyrannized nation George, that you had to do any time at all for such non-crimes.

One of my favorite movies...I love the courtroom scene prior to being sentenced to Danbury for the marijuana charges.

Alright. Well, in all honesty, I don't feel that what I've done is a crime. And I think it's illogical and irresponsible for you to sentence me to prison. Because, when you think about it, what did I really do? I crossed an imaginary line with a bunch of plants. I mean, you say I'm an outlaw, you say I'm a thief, but where's the Christmas dinner for the people on relief? Huh? You say you're looking for someone who's never weak but always strong, to gather flowers constantly whether you are right or wrong, someone to open each and every door, but it ain't me, babe, huh? No, no, no, it ain't me, babe. It ain't me you're looking for, babe. You follow?

    Illogical and irresponsible indeed!

the only drug I know of that makes the average person more obtuse while simultaneously promoting  delusions of intellectual grandeur..

See: Charlie Sheen. And Hollywood in general in the last thirty years. And let's not forget Wall St.

The perennial popularity of coke here just confirms my suspicion that we're living in the dumbest, most arrogant (bad combination) country on the planet.

George is probably no worse than anyone else whose life's ambition is to exploit people's weakness so he can buy a Ferrari, a Maserati, and a Lamborghini. Half the people at the Wharton School in other words.
