Munich: Lone Shooter, Native German, Killed Himself

Update: Not ISIS, not any terror group. 18 year old David Ali Sonboly was just another loony teenage wolf acting on his own. He was obsessed with shooting rampages. He had undergone psychiatric treatment. He was depressed. He had been bullied at school. He lived with his family. His parents are Shiite Muslims (the enemy of ISIS which is Sunni) who migrated to Germany. He was a child of migrants, not a migrant hater. His target was kids. He didn't use a long rifle but a handgun, which had been stolen, not acquired lawfully.

So this had no connection to ISIS or Islam and was not motivated by right wing racism or Germany's migrant policy. The media sure got this one wrong.

Bump and Update: Munich police held a press conference on the shootings. There was one shooter and he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Police say he acted alone. He has been identified him as an 18 year old native born German of Iranian descent. He had been in Munich for at least 2 years and was not known to law enforcement. Police say they doubt he was not affiliated with any terrorist group. [More...]

"There are no indications that terrorist groups are connected with, this will work research," he added the head of the Bavarian police.
Once again, the media misreported Islamic terrorist connections and exaggerated the number of shooters before the facts were in.

The U.S. has issued an advisory to stay in place in Munich, due to multiple shooting sites, including one outside a McDonalds and another at the Olympia shopping center.

Munich police say the suspects are still on the run and are telling everyone to stay out of public places.

Reports are that 6 people are dead, including a gunman.

Correct, Merkel is fully invested in the tome of the safe Middle Eastern immigrant, as she had opened the floodgates for poor, war ravaged refugees to enter Europe.

Which ISIS has fully acknowledged taking advantage of.

Perhaps inviting hundreds of thousands disaffected idle youth , without the capacity to assimilate , find employment, was not the best idea. Especially with a ideology like ISIS currently running amok in the world

Well, it appears the Germans have announced it is not a terrorist attack, just a crazy, maladjusted teenager

So you must agree what we have is the same coin but on opposite sides...?

Okay. The question is.... How many of each?

Now the question becomes to which side has the most active members......
"U.S. intelligence estimates that ISIL has a total force of somewhere between 9,000 to 18,000 fighters." In late 2014, the CIA's estimate of ISIL's numbers was slightly higher, as its analysts assessed that the group had between 20,000 and 31,500 fighters between its Iraq and Syria holdings.

Other estimates are far higher. Rami Abdel Rahman, the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has said that ISIL has more than 50,000 fighters in Syria alone. The chief of the Russian General Staff recently said that Russia estimates ISIL to have "70,000 gunmen of various nationalities." In late August of 2014, Baghdad-based security expert Hisham al-Hashimi claimed that ISIL's total membership could be close to 100,000. By November, Fuad Hussein, the chief of staff to Kurdish president Massoud Barzani, told Patrick Cockburn of The Independent that the CIA's estimates were far too low, and that ISIL had at least 200,000 fighters.

The question is, was he a radical islamist nut or a radical right wing nut?

So far the only clue we have is that he shouted "Allahu akbar" while committing his heinous crimes.

The shia muslim shooter did make remarks about being bullied by the sunnis at school and seems to have brought the 1400 year old bloody feud between sunnis and shiites to Munich in addition following Muhammeds command to "slay unbelievers wherever you find them" in general.

Police investigating the Munich shooting rampage say that there is an "obvious" link with Anders Behring Breivik's massacre in Norway, which was carried out exactly five years to the day before Friday's attacks...

The Munich attacker was an 18-year-old student who was born and raised in the city, Munich Police Chief Hubertus Andrae said at a press conference Saturday.
He said the gunman was "not connected with refugees at all." The gunman had received medical treatment for mental issues, a police official said, and investigators are still looking into his mental condition.

    Wash Post

LONDON -- At first, there was complete silence from officials. As rumors spread on social media, police had nothing to say about allegations of mass sexual assaults and other crimes carried out on New Year's Eve in the German city of Cologne.

It was only days later that officials reported that hundreds of women were victims of assault in Cologne, Hamburg and other German cities.

But numbers that are now emerging are likely to shock a country still coming to terms with what happened in Cologne more than half a year ago. According to a leaked police document, published by Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper and broadcasters NDR and WDR, the previous estimates have to be dramatically revised -- upward.

[Why it took half a year for the full extent of the New Year's Eve assaults in Germany to be known]

Authorities now think that on New Year's Eve, more than 1,200 women were sexually assaulted in various German cities, including more than 600 in Cologne and about 400 in Hamburg.

More than 2,000 men were allegedly involved, and 120 suspects -- about half of them foreign nationals who had only recently arrived in Germany -- have been identified.

Only four have been convicted, but more trials are underway.

On Thursday, a court in Cologne sentenced two men in the New Year's Eve assaults. Hussein A., a 21-year-old Iraqi, and Hassan T., a 26-year-old Algerian, were handed suspended one-year sentences. Both arrived in Germany in the past two years, a court spokesman said. He declined to specify whether the two had sought asylum.

What I was trying to say is that both FOX and CNN were reporting that ISIS was on social media celebrating the attack and contrasting that with other reports that the shooter was claiming to be a German.

While I agree with you that social media may have credibility problems the point the news outlets were trying to make is ISIS was trying to take credit for the attack on social media.  While it now seems the shooter (and other recent terrorists) had no direct connection with ISIS this has not seemed to stop ISIS from taking credit for their actions.

Can not be prevented and will only continue throughout Europe. If there is another attack within France, as is essentially guaranteed, the right wing is going to win huge in upcoming elections. They have already started publicly congratulating the Brexit vote. Some tough times for the E.U. coming up.

prevented IF the massive Muslim immigration, extending over the past 40 years, had been blocked.

    But as I write this:

Police say a Syrian refugee killed a woman with a

machete and wounded two others outside a bus station in the southwestern German city of Reutlingen before being arrested.

According to police, there is no indication that the killing was a terrorist attack.

Of course not. How could we even think such things?

Anyone may claim anything they want,

    But unfortunately, nowadays,

Everyone also has an on line footprint, and those claims may be verified, or proven false

A legend created over several years will enable a determined ideological driven person to evade normal detection nets.

You would only be able to unwind the yarn of thread after their terrorist action and see through their legend, after they accomplished their goal.  (Sleeper cells)

But for the newly converted, they still have a on line footprint

I haven't been able to find a reference to a terrorist attack in Europe or the US done by somebody of Iranian national origin.  Of course Iran has been backing terrorists of other nationalities for a long time.

but i don't believe "native born german" with non-citizen 'rents is really a thing. few countries do that. i believe a child born in germany of non-citizen 'rents can apply for citizenship when they are 21 (or something) and then they need to go through the full process. but i'm not all that familiar with germany. but i think i'm pretty much correct.

    Citizenship as well?

It appears they do not actually recognize dual citizenships so it seems most likey that his father was an Iranian citizen by birth in order for his son to be recognized as an Iranian citzen by birth.
