Getting Ready for D.C.

First, thanks to everyone who responded to my request for assistance with travel expenses for my trip to Washington tomorrow to cover the Scooter Libby trial this week. I just got my thank-you e-mails sent out.

I will be in the actual courtroom, sitting in for Christy of Firedoglake who did such a great job of providing observations and analysis last week. Together with Marcy's outstanding live-blogging from the media courtroom which reads like a line by line transcript (although she cautions it is not), FDL has provided coverage that makes the blogosphere shine.

Originally, I was just going to attend the trial Monday and Tuesday, but Christy has asked if I'd stay the full week, so I will be in the courtroom Monday through Thursday.

The week begins with immunized witness Ari Fleischer, whom Libby's lawyers plan to attack. That should be an exciting day. Already Fitz and Team Libby are battling over whether Ari can say why he felt he needed immunity and the exact terms of the immunity deal. Fitz says he bought a pig in a poke and Team Libby doesn't believe him. Hopefully, we'll see some sparks fly.

Marcy will be live-blogging the testimony as it occurs. Since laptops and camera phones aren't allowed in the actual courtroom, I'll be taking handwritten notes and blogging at lunch, after court and at night. My focus will be on the trial itself, the participants and the legal issues.

If I'm also allowed in the media courtroom with my pass, I'll write about that too.

My posts will appear first at Firedoglake, and about an hour or so later, on HuffPo and here at TalkLeft.

We are not the only bloggers covering the trial. Media Bloggers has two bloggers in the media courtroom and many more writing from elsewhere. Here is a live feed of their coverage, which has been picked up by the Associated Press. (I'll be back in DC to blog for them Feb. 20 - 22.)

Thanks to all of you who helped with my travel expenses. I'll be staying with Marcy at the Firedoglake Plame House -- no hotel, thankfully this trip -- and now I'm off to the myriad of errands I have to run and work tasks I must finish before leaving town.

Update: One last thing. TalkLeft will not be only about Libby next week. Big Tent Democrat and TChris will be here and Scribe and others may write some diaries. There will also be open threads.
