March Madness Sweet 16 - Let's Go Gators!

I was distracted yesterday and didn't write about last night's Sweet 16 games. And what games they were. Ohio State produced another miracle to stay alive. For the record, I picked Ohio State to win but the fact is Tennessee should have won so no glory there. Texas A&M lost a heartbreaker to Memphis, I had A&M in my Final Four. I think this is a break for Ohio State. They will beat Memphis and go tothe Final Four. Kansas survived a scare from SIU. They face UCLA, who beat Pitt, on Saturday. I like UCLA in that game.

Tonight the Gators play Butler. There is some history as those who follow this will have heard already. I am probably going to jinx my Gators but they should win this game easily. UNC faces USC in what should be the game of the night. I have picked UNC to win this game before. But I think USC can and will pull the upset tonight. In the other game, Georgetown will easily handle Vandy, which has had a great tourney. The matchup is terrible for Vandy imo. A hardnosed defensive team which is very patient offensively.

Add your March Madness thoughts here.

Vandy beat Georgetown last year in DC and Gerogetown returned the favor this year in Nashville.

Shan Foster had 2pts in the match-up this year and if he plays that poorly again they will certainly lose.

However I don't anticipate that and I think Vandy will run their two big guys at Hibbert and if we shoot well we can beat anyone (including UF).

How bout some love for the SEC?

I'm calling them as I sees them.

Have faith, I had A&M in the Final 4.

I really hate the Tan Man (Bruce Pearl) for obvious reasons but I wanted to see UT beat the Buckeyes for SEC pride but then again as my Gator Buddies point out wouldn't it be awesome to see the Gators pound the Buckeyes in the title game again?

    Go Dores & Go Gators!

    yeah,

    go gators!!!

this florida team is a team to love.

but for me, it's not just about last year's triumph.

it's about being a teenager in st pete  decades ago and desperately hoping the gator FOOTBALL team would win  a game, let alone some sort of championship.

now they've got it all - football pennants, basketball pennants.

too late to heal my broken heart,

but not too late for me to cheer them on.

    now u.s.f.

(for you non-floridians, "u.s.f.:" is not a typo of "f.s.u.")

    well,

that's a matter for the future.

but will i live long enough?

I don't know how to express how pissed off I am that they let a guy walk to beat us on a last second shot.

No one is questioning the call.   The refs simply let the player travel to get off the last shot and the Commodores lose.

    Not fair.

Somebody on SportsCenter last night said that UNC should win because the middle letter is higher in the alphabet, or something like that.

It's as valid as any other reason, I suppose.

Jinx BTD. I waited for your post yesterday.... (none / 0) (#6)

When it didn't come, I knew my Vols were going down. Do you realize if we had just hit 50% on our free throws, we would have beaten Ohio State twice this year? Those freshmen better practice over the summer. Good luck tonight, Butler can be tough. I'm kind of hoping for an OSU/Florida rematch myself. Go Gators :)

I meant to add, Byars is playing like a man (none / 0) (#7)

who refuses to lose. If he continues that way, I think Vandy has a chance but it is a tough match-up.

    USC over UNC
    UNLV over Oregon

    Or wrong on both counts.

    West coast, baby.

But seriously, that Buckeye comeback.  Egad, not a good day to be a Vol fan.

would somebody please tell me who the hell "butler" is?

    and where?

i only follow basketball at this stage

    but at least,

i know who villanova, georgetown, st. johns, st. josephs, east tenn state (better known as ETSUto fans), gonzaga, etc

    are (or were).

    but butler?

the only butler i know about is a tiny town buried under a tva lake near my hometown deep in the hills of upper east tennessee.

    can't be that one.
