    Let me clarify- (5.00 / 1) (#32)
by Gerald USN Ret on Thu Jun 16, 2011 at 10:20:18 AM EST
What I mean by having Arnold and Angelina Jolie as parents is that I wish my dad and my mom had been real life action heroes.  That would have been in the kid's parlance "neat."

I can state with unequivocal and unabashed certainty that my mom is not only prettier than Angelina, which is really really saying something, but she never bummed around with a scumbag like Billy Bob Thornton and a vial of blood either.

That said, it would haven been really something to have a dad who was a Arnold type "super COMMANDO" and a mother who was a really powerful water demon like Angelina was in Beowulf, or even super Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.

My own thought about the new Arnold kid is that he might not have known who his dad was, and to all of a sudden have Arnold come into his personal orbit is really something.

Besides Arnold's other sons drive HUMMERS!

Hey, talk, about instant STATUS at grade school!

What did the the old comic book heroes and sports casters say? "HOLY COW!"

most teenage boys now have very little, if any, idea who Arnold is or was.  There may be some 30+-year-olds who loved The Terminator when they were kids, and wouldn't mind claiming Arnold as their dad, but I doubt that most 13-year-olds would.  Remember that this kid's mom worked for Arnold, so the kid would have grown up knowing Arnold and who he was.

...and their healthy, normal development (which, I have to say, I think this does) is set them up for a lot of psychological trouble later, when they are old enough to genuinely understand how screwed up the circumstances of their birth were.  Speaking for myself only, of course, but as the product of a May-December affair between visiting professor and student.  Perhaps, though, my two cents are not worth even that with the inflation of personal "experience."

... how many people have the luxury of normalcy.  The older I get the more I realize, pretty much everyone is screwed up emotionally at some level.

I wasn't defending the choice, just noting the teenager probably didn't have an issue with it.  Like the teenage boys who have inappropriate relations with a teacher, sure they probably like the attention, but in the long run it can't be healthy.

I don't think it's nurturing for a child to lie to them for many years about who their father is/was.

With Arnold's money, however, I'm sure he will be physically safe and nurtured plenty, the rest, well, only time and the quality of adults in his life will tell.
