The House of Representatives today held a vote on Liz Cheney and she has been removed as House Republican Conference chair

which is considered to be the third most important Republican position in the House.

Donald Trump was happy, calling her "a poor leader, a major Democrat talking point, a warmonger, and a person with absolutely no personality or heart.”

He did get one right: warmonger.

I don't understand why Democrats and progressives are flocking to defend Liz Cheney. Liz Cheney holds the same beliefs as her father, Dick Cheney. See Maureen Dowd's column this week, on the similarity of beliefs held by Cheney and her father. I'm with Dowd on this.

Liberals responded to Trump’s derangements by bathing the Bush-Cheney crowd in a flattering nostalgic light.

So, shockingly, the Republicans who eroded America’s moral authority — selling us the Iraq war, torture, a prolonged Afghanistan occupation and Sarah Palin — became the new guardians of America’s moral authority. Complete with bloated TV and book contracts.

Trump built a movement based on lies. The Cheneys showed him how it’s done.

Dick Cheney was a hundred times more dangerous than Donald Trump. For one thing, Cheney, like his daughter, has a brain. If Donald has one, it's hasn't shown itself yet.

Listening to Chris Cuomo' on the car radio last night, he had Anna Navarro on. She said one of the Republicans supporting Trump will end up "being just a pimple on the butt of history". That's what I think about Donald. The world theater has moved on. He will never get power back, or respect from abroad. I believe he will be the winner of the title "Just a pimple on the butt of history" in the long run.

Speaking only for myself I am not defending her. I am giving credit where it's due.

And I couldn't disagree more about her being more dangerous than Trump.

It was made worse that I did not know about it until weeks after. But since then I have spent a lot of time going through pictures and other things. I enjoyed seeing this for its "same as it ever was" quality.

... can publicly disagree and debate policy issues is founded upon our mutual devotion to the democratic principles underscored by our Constitution.

There is no question that Rep. Cheney has recently stood tall in a robust and resolute defense of those very principles against the mindless partisan militancy of her own party. And even though it may ultimately cost her her House seat in a GOP primary, it's a risk she evidently considers worth taking.

If we can't bring ourselves to acknowledge that and stand with her, then our own commitment to those same principles can likewise be considered suspect or at best, qualified and dependent almost entirely upon who's doing the defending.

If you've been reading the coverage lately, or listened to gloating Democrats, it's easy to believe the Republican Party is eating itself alive.

Don't know what coverage he is referring to no one thinks this. Except him and his friends at Republico

If he's betting I would take his bet that it's going to happen. My guess would be mostly after the next election.

What should have taken four days, has taken four months to put together.

A composition of five appointments by Democratic leadership and five by Republicans. No current government officials or members of Congress. The subpoena power requires the support of both the Chair (appointed by Democrats) and Vice Chair (appointed by Republicans)or a vote of the majority of the Commission. The Commission is to provide a report by December 31, 2021.

An investigation of the January 6 insurrection should go beyond the Congress in that the seditious goal was to overturn the election of the president and vice president of the USA.

And, the Commission structure assumes participation by a serious political party, which the Republicans are not. When a Republican House member is booted from her leadership role because she will not lie about the Jan 6 insurrection and another House member claims the Jan 6 event was just a "normal tourist visit" at the Capitol, the likely Republican appointees do not engender confidence.

Subpoena power is critical to the work of the Commission, but the "bipartisan support" required cripples investigation.

This notion of needing "bipartisanship" seemingly for credibility of findings and all things good, ignores the fact that the nation has seen this "tourist visit" with its own eyes. It needs to know the underpinnings to the insurrection--its leaders, financiers, security failures (or deliberate laxity).

If by, chance, the Commission does an independent investigation, it will still be attacked by Republicans are being co-opted, RINOs, or anti-Trumpers. I do not understand what the Congressional Democrats are thinking. I am hopeful that there is more to the decision-making than is suggested by the Commission set up.

Might as well just have a Blue Ribbon Committee appointed by the president. Although, if the Democrats chose Dick Cheney as one of its appointees (Liz is still a House member, or she would be better), I might feel a little better about it all.

Molecular virologist.
He does know some of the the signatories, although not all of them.
He basically agrees that they certainly should look more carefully at the genesis of the virus (which is what the paper is saying), and he thinks that the Chinese government has been uncooperative about this.
