Matt Lauer Apologizes

From Matt Lauer's apology today:

“Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed,” Mr. Lauer wrote in a message issued by his public relations team. “I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly.”

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions,” Mr. Lauer wrote. “To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”

His statement ends with: [More...]

Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul-searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full-time job. The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”

because we don't know exactly what, if anything, these celebrities/politicians are guilty of. I thought Louis CK and Al Franken had decent statements but their words were still heavily criticized. I doubt this apology from Lauer will fare much better.

Even if someone (and their PR team) craft the perfect statement, how do we know it's sincere... like when Lauer says "soul-searching" will be his full time job?

Somehow I'm more bugged over the ease with which the wealthy arse-grabbers of the world like Lauer are able to scarf up and block access to so many of the fields, streams, woods, and beaches on the planet.

Luckily my merry men and I aren't thwarted so easily.

Can't say I know if the NZ OIO is on the level, but we could use some of that intention over here. For natural wonders and dwellings laying vacant as cash shelters while people sleep on subway grates with no money for state park access.
Lucky for Will Scarlet over here, even in middle age I can still hop a mean fence if necessary.

for not using the 'if anyone was hurt, I apologize' format. He acknowledges there was hurt and damage.

Katie Couric deleted. Clearly the commenter's lazy and shallow attempt at information gathering was on display.

After her anchor position at CBS News, Katie Couric was hired as Yahoo's Global News Anchor in 2013 for $6 million a year in cash and stock. In 2015, her contract was renewed for $10 million in cash and stock.

Her contract was renewed again until June, and Verizon bought out Yahoo in July, 2017. It created a new division called Oath, consolidating AOL and Yahoo. Katie was offered the opportunity to continue, she made the decision in June to decide what projects to work on on a case by case basis.

According to Oath, since joining Yahoo ... Couric and her team generated nearly one billion video views and has grown them annually by 300 percent, producing close to 60 videos each week.
She also covered major political events for Yahoo News and nabbed big newsmakers. Her most successful interview was with former government security programmer Edward Snowden in Moscow, which she did for both Yahoo and its partner ABC News.

Among the projects she is involved with:

... a six-part documentary series she is doing with National Geographic on major social issues, her second project there. She is also the executive producer of "Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric," which was released on National Geographic this year.

In addition, she is expanding her own production company. The idea that she is somehow reduced to producing her own podcasts is just false.
