Bad fence:

At a Congressional hearing this month in Brownsville, the president of the University of Texas campus there, Juliet V. Garcia, testified that she had not been consulted before Homeland Security officials announced plans to build an 18-foot-high barrier that she said would leave the campus’s technology center and golf course “on the Mexican side of the fence.”

    Yes, they can. But it is a question I've been asking for about 7 years now.

    And, yes, I do know that the Congress permitted Homeland Security to condemn any property regardless of environmental impacts, etc.

    is by far one of the worst ideas to come out of the US government in many, many years.

    I needed one today.  Anyway, nothing against golfers per se, but I hate golf courses.  Among other things, the water used in golf courses in one day is enough to provide drinking water to all third world water contaminated countries for a whole year.  (Source: The Economist)

    at least now the ground keepers and janitors won't be illegals.  I will be so banned for that line  And I guess they weren't big contributors to Bushs' campaign, since those people don't have to worry about the fence.  It seems there are some curious that brakes in it and it stops in odd places that coincide with land held by major contributors to RNC.

    riling up golfers.  They're not gonna put up with a fence hazard in the middle of a fairway.  And they won't get passports to play through, either!

    The tech people, of course, will just rewrite the code, moving the fence wherever they want to.

    if there isn't a windmill in front of at least one hole, it isn't real golf anyway. think of the fence as a challenge to increase the skill of the team.

    One correction though...UT is the University of Tennessee founded in 1794. The University of Texas came along in 1895.

    They already stole our Power T so I have to call them out now. I do feel bad for the golf team though. :)

    always U-T, till they sold the university down the river (a U-T cartoon c.1951) and now it is UTK, and UTC, and UTM and probably a few other alphabet soup thingies I do not recall.

    It's a cinderella story.

    But the best line in the whole movie has gotta go to the judge..."The world needs ditch-diggers too Danny."

    And as far as I'm concerned fences are built to be hopped...I just hope they don't snag their funny pants.

    And lets hope the unmanned spy drones don't confuse golf balls for live rounds and call in the cavalry.  A second Mexican-American war could start over a long drive.
